Nadje can write music for you.

The cinematic style of trumpeter/composer Nadje Noordhuis has led to innovative collaborations with musicians, artists and film-makers. For over twenty years, she has been dedicated to writing and arranging across all genres.

Recent commissions include compositions for the UK-based Grimethorpe Colliery Band (from the movie Brassed Off), the international string, brass and woodwind ensemble Imbroglio Sextet, Grammy-nominated jazz artist Sara Caswell, new music ensemble ExhAust, and the early music ensemble ThroughBass. Her suite for this Sydney-based ensemble, Magpie Baby, was subsequently made into a children's book and CD set, and published by Captain Honey in 2014. In 2010, she was selected as a Carnegie Hall Young Artist, participating in a workshop intensive with trumpeter/composer Dave Douglas. Her 13-piece Irish flavored composition premiered as the concert finale. Noordhuis was the 2009 commissioned artist for New York's Festival of New Trumpet (FONT), and presented a concert of original music. Arrangements of her music for big band have also been performed at multiple university concerts in Canada and USA.

Noordhuis has five albums of original compositions on her record label, Little Mystery Records. Her debut jazz quintet album, Nadje Noordhuis, featuring Grammy nominees Sara Caswell and Geoffrey Keezer, was released to critical acclaim in 2012. Her 2015 contemplative duo album of miniatures with pianist Luke Howard, Ten Sails, has garnered much international attention, with over 17 million streams on Spotify and YouTube. Her 2017 album, Indigo, with vibraphonist/synthesist James Shipp, was premiered at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival in Australia. Her new genre-bending quintet with Maeve Gilchrist (celtic harp), Jesse Lewis (electric guitar), Ike Sturm (electric bass), and James Shipp (synthesizers, percussion) blends acoustic and electric instruments, seamlessly weaving her melodious compositions with threads of improvisation. Their debut album, Gullfoss, was recorded live in Muri, Switzerland, and released on vinyl on Newvelle Records in 2019. Their new album was digitally released on Little Mystery Records in September 2021. James Shipp and Noordhuis’ latest duo album (featuring many layers of themselves) called Multitudes was released in June 2023. Her vinyl and digital album, Full Circle, featuring Fred Hersch, Thomas Morgan and Rudy Royston, is out on Newvelle Records.

In 2002 Noordhuis was first commissioned to compose an accompaniment for a series of photographs. Her suite for strings, percussion and trumpet was subsequently performed by her new music group. As part of the Foreign Exchange Film and Music Festival, held in New York in 2005, she performed her original score during a screening of the award-winning Australian short film, "The Projectionist". During her Masters of Music studies at Manhattan School of Music, Noordhuis undertook all elective film scoring classes, and composed for diverse projects, including writing for the 70-piece Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra. She studied composition under the tutelage of Ludmilla Ulehla.

Rock Fixed Media + Trumpet commission “Captain Anya” for Dr Scott Hagarty was completed in 2021, and is out on his debut album “Determination: Music for Trumpet”.
